My name is Ymonne - and I am the writer behind CookedRaw. I knew from a young age that I wanted to try going vegetarian; however, I never really found the motivation. I was a typical college student that worked multiple jobs while in school. I honestly just ate whatever I could make in a short amount of time; and if I didn’t cook for myself I would just end up purchasing fast food or ordering pizza. Towards the end of my undergraduate career, I felt that I had become so stressed with school and work - that I knew I needed to make changes in my life. I felt tired all the time, overwhelmed, and my choices were not conducive to a sustainable, mindful lifestyle. Despite how I was feeling, I still could not commit to making the necessary changes until I watched a documentary on factory farming. I was so devastated at the scale and lack of humanity towards other living creatures that I knew I could no longer be complicit. So, in a rather unorthodox way, I decided to make a change for good. From that point on, I have been exploring whole food plant based cooking and supporting vegan restaurants at home and abroad. With CookedRaw, I will be sharing my plant-based journey from personal recipes to restaurants and all things in-between. Whether you are vegan or not, I hope you find CookedRaw as a resource for a healthier, sustainable, and more compassionate lifestyle.
